A rare, peculiar and extraordinarily delicious Palo Cortado Sherry

  • This Palo Cortado could easily be mistaken for an Oloroso such is the richness and weightiness it carries
  • The nose is warm and intense with vanilla, caramel and nutmeg with dried fruits and roasted hazelnuts
  • The palate is dry and lively, lighter-bodied than you might think with firm acidity and notes of walnut skin, garrigue and lemon zest
  • The finish has a lovely peppery heat and subtle notes of roasted coffee beans
  • The V.O.S. on the bottle stands for the Latin "Vinum Optimum Signatum" or the easier to remember "Very Old Sherry"
    • Grape variety: Palomino Fino
    • Vintage: NV
    • Type/Colour: Palo Cortado
    • Alcohol: 20.5%
    • Bottle Size: 50cl
    • Group: Sherry
    • Suitable for Vegans: Yes
    • Suitable for Vegetarians: Yes

Sherry is another festive must-have, and this twenty year old Palo Cortado is pure luxury. It's incredibly complex with layer upon layer of umami savouriness - just the thing for a cold evening in front of the fire. - Emily Silva, OWC

January 2025 - I'm not usually a fan of Sherry, but this is too good not to like.

May 2023 - With a disconnect between the warm caramel aroma & sharp lemon flavour, this pretty amber Sherry is a surprise . Think mixed orange & lemon peel. Of the wines I tried at the Give Me Strength Tasting, it was the most curious, the most exciting, a definite talking point. I scribbled: "With pheasant?"
