Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt

Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt

£86.50

A complex, fruity and soft Japanese single malt made at Japan's Miyagikyo distillery

  • Nikka was created in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the "Father of Japanese Whisky". Miyagikyo was set up in 1969 after Taketsuru had been making whisky at Yoichi for 35 years
  • The Miyagikyo style differs from the original Yoichi distillery, producing a richer whisky with notes of fresh cut grass, citrus peel and honey
  • As expected, the nose is soft and sweet, with fruit and floral notes. Elegant aromas of fresh flowers, soft fruit and some candied orange peel
  • Slightly richer on the palate, with toasty, roasted nuts and ripe fruits. There's some darker, more complex notes too, in the form of chocolate, along with candied fruit and some honey
  • The fruity, floral notes dominate the finish, ably supported by a touch of toasty oak and spice. Very well balanced and approachable
    • Type/Colour: Single Malt Whisky
    • Alcohol: 45%
    • Bottle Size: 70cl
    • Country: Japan

Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka and founding father of Japanese whisky learned his trade at Hazelburn Distillery in Campbelltown. Miyagikyo Distillery was Nikka's second built in Japan in Sendai, a very picturesque mountainous region. This contrasts with their first distillery of Yoichi in Hokkaido which is situated on the coast and displays a much peatier character.
