'The sixth and seventh generation of the family are now in charge of a domaine founded by Nicolas Schlumberger in 1810 - and there's no sign of quality letting up at this fine old house in southern Alsace.
Noted for their remarkable vineyards - one of the largest blocks of continuous vineyards in France - the Schlumbergers' quality mindset is exemplified in their low yields, typically 50% smaller than the Alsace average.
It makes for thrilling wines, not least this Riesling from the renowned Saering Grand Cru with, according to the Top 100 judges, its "lovely Riesling nose, full dry, minerally palate, and remarkable long finish. Very proper!"' - The Wine Merchant Top 100 2018

'Lovely fresh, vibrant perfume with a lively floral and citrus character. Fine-grained and dense palate with a pronounced salty-mineral quality lifted by very fine acidity. Finishes bright and with great length indeed, with a beautiful drinkability throughout; a delightful Riesling (2013 vintage) - Decanter, 2016

To the north of Guebwiller, Saering faces east and south-east at an altitude of 260 to 300. Saering 'marl/limestone/sandstone terroir brings out the best in this magnificent, fine, delicate Riesling. The grapes are hand-picked and whole bunches are pressed. There is static settling of the lees. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled tuns, followed by raising on the lees for 8 months.

Domaine Schlumberger have practiced sustainable viticulture across all their vineyards since 2003. What's more, since 2006, 30ha of their land has been cultivated biodynamically.
