THE OXFORD WINE COMPANY

The original Oxford Wine Company was founded in 1840 and traded from 125 High Street, Oxford until 1914. The name was revived in the early 1990s by MD and owner Ted Sandbach, metamorphosing from 'The Oxford Hamper Company' through 'The Oxford Wine and Hamper Company' and finally becoming 'The Oxford Wine Company' in the Spring of 1992. Since then expansion has been rapid and the company now bears very little resemblance to its relatively humble origins. Driven forward by Ted, this is a company which never stands still!

These days The Oxford Wine Company is a multi award winning local Independent Wine Merchant with a national profile. Winner of 'Best Customer Service 2012' in the Harpers Wine & Spirit Top Merchant Awards, The Oxford Wine Company has won 'Best Wholesaler of the Year' for four years in a row: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 - an achievement unparalleled in the history of the Harpers Awards. The company has also been awarded 'Independent Wine Retailer of the Year 2012' in the prestigious Drinks Retailing Awards and 'Regional Wine Merchant of the Year' in 2015, 2012, 2010 and 2007 by The International Wine Challenge.

The Oxford Wine Company has shops in Turl Street (just round the corner from the original Oxford Wine Company) and the Botley Road in Oxford City as well as a shop in our headquarters in Standlake (just outside Witney). We supply a large range of restaurants, pubs and hotels throughout the South West of England through our large wholesale division. The company has a large number of highly trained staff. Six of the company's staff hold the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma, the industry's top benchmark qualification which is one level below Master of Wine. The Oxford Wine Company stocks a large range of around 1500 products that are generally not found on the High Street or in supermarkets (including a large range of specialist spirits).

The Oxford Wine Company itself holds regular informal tastings, dinners and large wine fairs in a variety of locations from our shops to a number of top Oxford restaurants and The Randolph Hotel. We also run bespoke tastings for anyone from top corporates to private evenings and hen parties. The Oxford Wine School also runs Wine and Spirit Education Trust approved wine courses taught by Head Tutor John Shuckburgh. We run regular offers on wines in our three shops and cover all price points.
