Rathfinny Estate

Website: http://rathfinnyestate.com/

Rathfinny Estate was founded in 2010 by Mark and Sarah Driver. With the release of their first wines in 2018, Rathfinny hit the scene of English Sparkling wine spectacularly. Mark and Sarah have incredible ambition and are determined to make Rathfinny internationally known while being one of the biggest vineyards in the UK.

Some of their success can be attributed to the perfect destination of their vineyard, which they discovered near Alfriston in the South Downs of Sussex. The location lets the vineyard bask in the sunshine, enjoying a fresh sea breeze, with the vineyard only being three miles from the Seven Sisters cliffs. As well as a perfect location, Rathfinny work with a highly experienced winemaker, Jonathan Médard. He has worked with some of the top wineries in the world, such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Champagne Louis Roederer, Moët & Chandon, and now has now been a part of the increasing success of Rathfinny.

Rathfinny have just released their first vintage of Classic cuvée. They have had large success with their current collection making their Classic cuvée hotly anticipated. It is made with the three traditional grapes (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) which are hand-harvested from the Rathfinny Estate. They also use the traditional champagne method to produce the highest quality of sparkling wine. This wine will be complex with notes of fresh English orchard fruits followed by flavours of juicy tangerine and honeydew. Finished with touches of almonds and toasty notes.

The other wines in their range include a Sparkling Rosé and Blanc de Noir. The Rathfinny Rosé was one of the first wines released in June 2018. It is a Pinot Noir dominated blend and is described as having a 'fruit-forward yet sophisticated' style. The wine has a bright nose of wild strawberries, which extends on to the palate and is joined by notes of ripe red apple skin and silky yellow cherries. The structure is held by a soft base of minerality and a rich shortbread finish. There is also their Blanc de Noir 2016, which is their second vintage of this wine. This wine is over 90% Pinot Noir with splashes of Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The wine displays a delicate nose of peonies and wild strawberries. The palate produces subtle red berry notes, such as raspberry joined with more complex notes of toasted almonds and rich caramelized red apples.

With already such a fabulous range, Rathfinny Estate is a wonderful example of what English sparkling has to offer, and we a certainly excited to see their future successes!
