Mencia (Jaen)

Normally connected to the Northwest region of Spain, Bierzo. It produces wines with aromas of blueberry and cherry with earthy and vegetal characteristics. The grape saw a revival by Priorat pioneer, Alvaro Palacios that challenged the general use of this grape for table wine production. At its best in the Dao region, where it makes highly perfumed wines with aromas reminiscent of blackberry, blueberry and cherry. The wines are simple yet seductive and have a slight rustic character to them. The wines are quite soft and made to be enjoyed whilst young.
