Domaine de la Baume

Domaine de la Baume was founded by Jean Prat 1882 and the grand house, that is the heart of the breathtakingly beautiful oasis, was once the home of famous French artist Bernard Buffet. The Domaine had been abandoned after a devastating attach of phylloxera but Jean Prat and his family worked tirelessly to restore it to its glory and by the 1900s had planted 100 hectares of vines. The estate is now owned by the Heklfrich family who's aim is to produce wines that portray the history of their beautiful home and warm summers.

The Languedoc has a reputation for its captivating beauty and the estate of Domaine de la Baume lives up to expectation. Located in the rural village of Servian, just 30 minutes from the sea, the grand house also has a luxury hotel, spa and restaurant, said to be the essence of tranquillity and perfection!

Jonathan Sanchez is the current winemaker. He produces wholesome wines that express the richness of their terroir; it all begins in the vineyards and deciding on the harvest date is of utmost importance. Their soils include limestone pebbles, limestone clay and sandy clay. They use stainless steel and barrel for fermentation and some wines are aged on the lees. Cool fermentation is favoured in order to preserve aromas and acidity in the fruit.

The Oxford Wine Company carry the majority of Domaine de la Baume's wines but favourites amongst their range include the Elisabeth Viognier: fermented in steel vats with 3 months ageing on the lees this wine has a very subtle spritz, an aromatic nose, a rich fruit driven palate followed by a cleansing acidity. Also, the Elite D'or Chardonnay/Roussanne blend: fermented and aged (on the lees with batonnage) in new oak, this rich and full-bodied white expresses ripe yellow fruit flavours and a long finish.

Domaine de la Baume achieve the balance between traditional methods and modern techniques and have won multiple awards from bodies such as Decanter, Wine Enthusiast and Grand Vin du Languedoc.
