Dão
This region of North Central Portugal is fasting gaining a reputation for quality. Dão produces around 80% red wine, which are characterised by their elegance and notes of mineral. The trademark style is a blend of native varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro. In fact, this region is thought to be the origin of Touriga Nacional, which is Portugal's most important red grape variety. Efforts are being made in Dão to revive some mostly forgotten grape varieties, which can only add to the rich vinous landscape of this region.
