Château Léoube

Website: https://www.leoube.com/?lang=en

It's hard to imagine a more idyllic place in the world than Château Léoube. Down in the heart of Provence, set amongst rolling hills planted with orchards, vines and olive trees the estate can even boast its own private beach!

The estate comprises 560 hectares. 70 of these are dedicated to vines, 25 to olive trees, and the rest is given over to wild vegetation composed of rosemary, white heather, sage, myrtle, marine lavender and groves of conifers, all making one of the lushest natural environments on the Côte d'Azur.

These Provencal vineyards are blessed with a superb Mediterranean climate. The summer's dry heat is moderated by the sea breeze making it fresher at night which helps retain freshness in the finished wines. The region is often windswept by the Mistral, which helps to keep the vines in good health.

Winemaker Romaine Ott, a son of a famous Provencal wine making dynasty, has been at Château Léoube since 2000 overseeing not just their wines but their olive oil production too. Romaine's philosophy is to be "Producing the best of what the earth can give with love and gratitude" and it is this that drives their unwavering commitment to sustainability. The owners too are in board with this approach - as the founders of Daylesford Organic, one of the UK's most sustainable farms - and everyone involved at Léoube is passionate about environmentally friendly farming.

All of the Château's wines are 100% certified organic. They include, as one would expect from Provence, a range of delicately pink, aromatic rosés. However there is more to Léoube than just rosé. Their natural terroir is a great match for Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvdre and Cabernet Sauvignon, the classic varieties of the Côtes de Provence appellation. At Léoube these are supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Merlot to produce deep, powerful reds with many years of ageing potential.
