Carmenére (Cabernet Gernischt)

Considered a Bordeaux variety, Carmenére was abandoned after Phylloxera and appears in Chile in the 19th Century. In Chile, it was only properly identified in 1994 amongst vineyards thought to be Merlot. It ripens late and to be successful, it requires warmth to produce wines with black fruit and herbal character with hints of red pepper.
